West Bengal wins first 75th Santosh Trophy Football Championship West Bengal beat Punjab by an unbeaten margin at 9.30 am at the Kottapadi Football Stadium. Shubham Bhowmick scored the winning goal for West Bengal in the 61st minute.
The first half
Both teams tried to score in the first half but could not score. In the 12th minute of the first half, Punjab midfielder Jashdeep Singh tried to get a free kick from outside the box, but West Bengal goalkeeper Subhebdu Mandi was sent off. In the 20th minute, West Bengal striker Shubham Baumik tried to score from a corner kick but was blocked by Punjab's Jashdeep Singh.
Three minutes later, the second chance came for Bengal. Fardin Ali Mollah's pass from inside the box into the box was deflected by Basu Deb Mandi but the ball bounced off the post. With just minutes left in the first half, Punjab's Tarun Slatia scored in the 43rd minute. Tarun Slatia, who had jumped past the defenders, was knocked out.
Second half
Bengal striker Shubham Bhowmick, who attacked early in the second half, looked for a chance in the first minute but could not convert. West Bengal took the lead in the 61st minute. Subhas Baumik converted a pass from the right wing to the Under-21s' Jai Bus.
The first goal of the championship. Four minutes later, Bengal's Tanmoy Ghosh tried to score the second goal through a long range, but the Punjab goalkeeper was brilliantly blocked. With just over a minute to go in extra time, Punjab's Rohit Sheikh missed a pass from the left wing into the box by Akashdeep Singh in the 89th minute.
