Prime Minister Narendra Modi will today lay the foundation stone for a massive project to upgrade 508 railway stations in the country so that the modernization can be completed by 2025. The project is expected to cost Rs 24,470 crore. Railway officials say the project is the first in the world to initiate the renovation of so many railway stations simultaneously.
The renovation is targeted to be completed by 2025. The design of the station buildings will be inspired by local culture, heritage and architecture. 508 stations in 27 states and union territories will be upgraded. 35 stations will be upgraded in Kerala.
The foundation stone of Amrit project will be laid at five stations in the state. The foundation stone laying ceremony will be held at Shornur Junction, Tirur, Vadakara, Payyannur and Kasaragod stations as well as Mangaluru Junction and Nagercoil. Celebrations will start at these stations from eight in the morning.
